Keeping moist during the winter

Does winter weather cause your skin to flake, itch, and crack? Well, here's some tips to help keep hydrated through the season.

1. How are you Moisturizing?
Use a moisture rich lotion to help keep your skin hydrated and apply liberally.  Vaseline has a great coco butter gel that you can apply after you shower to help lock in the moisture.

2. Exfoliate?
Yes!  Your skin sheds so you need to exfoliate to expose the new healthy glowing skin.  Remember, that you should exfoliate the skin on your body just like you do for your face.  I generally use an exfoliating glove to achieve maximum coverage.

3. Are you drinking enough water?
Hydrating starts from within, your body is mostly made up of water.  Therefore, if you aren't drinking enough water then your pores will open up to get as much moisture to keep hydrated.  Unfortunately, if you body resorts to this then you aren't drinking enough water to remain hydrated.  Bottoms up!  The recommendation is 8 - 12 glasses of water depending on your activity levels. 

Hope this helps to remain "Moist" during the winter season.

Congratulations to Mayor Hazel McCallion

At 89 years of age Hazel McCallion has won her 12 term as Mayor of Mississauga. I really feel that if she was to lose it would be her demise. She has so much energy at this age it's amazing! I have a feeling she'll be like Queen Elizabeth not allowing for anyone to reign supreme.

JayZ or Diddy to help Obama 2012 Elections

Well, that time is soon coming when presidental elections for the USA will be bombarding our every cell. JayZ has been said to be President Obama person of choice to help him with the 2012 elections campagin. I understand that when JayZ is remembered, he wants to be remembered as being inspiring which is similar to that of Obama's statement. But how much time has JayZ really invested in bringing awareness to the importance of registering, understanding, educating and voting? In my opinion I would have choosen Diddy. He's brought voter awareness to pop culture and singlehandedly created some of the most creative and hit home slogans:

Why am I just hearing this? Where have I been? This was slept on!

Quiet Hero

You probably know of one but didn’t know what to call them. A Quiet Hero never makes the front pages but after fighting their battle they should have been given the Star of Courage. The Star of Courage is given to those “for acts of conspicuous courage in circumstances of great peril.” I know of a few Quiet Hero’s they’re few but their spirit of resilience always seems to astonish me.

I had planned an event called K.i.S the Chef: Sharing a Legacy for August 22, 2010 and was looking for a guest speaker. I remembered a manager at one of my previous employers and thought she would be an excellent choice. So, I went ahead and told her my idea after mustering up the courage to ask. She was delighted – honoured!

A routine check-up had changed everything. No person ever wants to disappoint another and unfortunately my guest speaker was no longer able to be my speaker last minute. I debated on getting a replacement as in show biz the show must go on. However, due to the circumstances and the purpose of this event I decided that I’d postpone it until my Quiet Hero can share her legacy.

On that note, be expected to SHARE LEARN GROW EAT LOVE on the date to be announced.

Eat Pray Love

I started a book club and our first book is Eat Pray Love: One woman's [Elizabeth Gilbert's] search for everything across Italy, India and Indonesia. And I'm happy to say that as a first book it was a great starter. I leave our discussions refreshed, renewed and exhilerated. I can't wait for our movie date coming August 29, 2010 I think they choose a great actress to represent Elizabeth - Julia Roberts.

Dinner Table Etiquette - the 10 Don'ts!

1. NEVER start eating before a signal from the host to do so.

2. Forks should not be turned over unless being used for eating peas, sweetcorn kernels, rice or other similar foods. In which case, it should be transferred to the right hand. However, at a casual buffet, or barbecue it is quite acceptable to eat with just a fork.

3. It is not generally regarded as good dinner table etiquette to use one's bread for dipping into soups or mopping up sauces.

4. Loud eating noises such as slurping and burping are very impolite. The number one sin of dinner table etiquette!

5. Talking with one's mouth full. is not only unpleasant to watch, but could also lead to choking! Definitely not a good idea!

6. Don't stretch across the table crossing other guests to reach food, wine or condiments. Instead ask a guest sitting close to pass the item to you.

7. Good dinner table etiquette sometimes involves a degree of diplomacy when it comes to the host's choice of food and wine! Even if you feel that you can do better, don't ever offer your criticism. If you feel unable to pay any compliments, at least remain silent on the subject.

8. Picking teeth (unless toothpicks are provided) or licking fingers are very unattractive! The only exception to the latter is when eating meat or poultry on the bone (such as chicken legs or ribs). In which case, a finger bowl should be provided.

9. Drinking too much wine can be very embarrassing! Where a different wine is served with each course, it is quite acceptable to not finish each glass.

10. Don't forget to make polite conversation with those guests around you. Dinner parties are not just about the food, they are intended to be a sociable occasion!

Help for Haiti

Today I took the initiative to start a fundraiser within my work to help support relief efforts. If you've been looking to make a difference at work or be recognized this is a great time! Every penny counts! It may seem miniscule but if you could see the big picture you would be Amazed. Don't be afraid to research and see if your company will match donations. This is what I put out to the departments on my floor and I hope that this news spreads like wildfire I have no problem taking orders for a GREAT cause. Take a read you can do the same too:

Hi All,

I’m assuming by now you’ve heard of the devastation that occurred in Haiti on January 12, 2010. If not here’s the synopsis:

An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale hit the capital city of Port-au-Prince and other areas through out the country. The Prime Minister estimates that ‘hundreds of thousands are dead’.

The Republic of Haiti is the poorest country in the Americas and one of the worlds poorest and least developed, with the average person living on approximately $2.00USD per day. The costs of a regular coffee from Second Cup or Starbucks and let’s not mention specialty coffee and so forth.

I know we’ve stretched you for the passing holiday season but “If you have much, give of your wealth; if you have little, give of your heart.” ~Arabian Proverb

I’d like to motivate you by offering you the opportunity to purchase some of Haiti’s most important export, coffee. I’ll be bringing in carafes of coffee for the cost of the average Haitian daily living expense this Friday, from some of the worlds most famous coffee houses. Caring is sharing, so, if you spread the word maybe you and your fellow colleagues can enjoy a cup of java and maybe some pastries or baked goods (to all our bakers and pastry chefs) friday morning while you discuss your weekend plans.

DVF caught my eye

I believe I may have first seen this dress on a post from WWW. Therefore, I must give credit where it's due.
I have never been a fan of Diane Von Furstenburg much less acknowledged her design style. However, I have to admit while looking through some of the dresses on my favorite site, one particular style caught my eye. Then as a continued to peruse I noticed another and I have to say I've become a fan of what I'd like to call DVF colourful, feminine, classic designs.

Spring and Summer are shortly around the corner. I definately can picture myself on a patio, sipping iced tea and chatting it up with friends in either one of these dresses.

What does this means? How does it ? I've looked in Wikipedia, and the Merriam-Webster dictionary to find a definiton much to no avail. However, this subject has become marketings new tool.

Socionomics: Socionomics is the study of social mood and its results in social actions. It studies how waves of endogenously regulated social mood in turn regulate changes in the economy, political preferences, financial markets, pop culture, etc. (Socionomics Institute, 2008)
